In this week’s edition of The Craft Revisited, our Founding Partner Shane Chesson discusses courage with Chris Lemons. Chris is a saturation diver, and subject of the Netflix documentary, Last Breath. He talks about his near-death experience diving when he was left stranded 100m under the North Sea, alone and in the pitch dark, with only 6 minutes of oxygen left.
Here are some key takeaways from their conversation:
- Chris went back to diving almost immediately after his near death experience through relativising the experience and seeing it in a more lighthearted manner.
- Having a diversity of personalities brings a diverse range of ideas and working styles together, and getting along with them in this environment is crucial given how they work in close confines.
- Pragmatism and dissociating from danger brought a valuable aspect to Chris’ rescue.
- One should assume that nothing is completely infallible, as seen by the single point failure of the boat.
