In today's edition of Meet The Team, we get to know Zhe Hao a little better. He's a Senior Data Analyst here at Openspace, and today, he shares more about his pizza-making skills and other memorable experiences at the office.
What do you do here at Openspace?
Hi Zhe Hao here! I’m a data scientist at Openspace and also a part-time pizza chef apprentice 🧑🍳 I work on maintaining our proprietary system, Alchemy, as well as ETL pipelines to ensure we get the latest available data. On a project basis, I work with portfolio companies on their data science projects as well.
Why did you join Openspace?
I thought it was interesting that Openspace has a Portfolio Success team angle, and specifically for the data team, to help portfolio companies succeed in their Data Science aspects. I think it’s very cool to gain exposure to different business problems and understand how these businesses use data to solve problems!
What is one unexpected thing about you?
My moniker in Openspace is the Young Jedi.
Who's someone you’ve always wanted to meet?
Lee Kuan Yew - Singapore’s visionary leader and founding father. I think he’s very inspirational and would be interested to learn from him.
What's one thing you really like about working here?
It’s really about the people - who are all intelligent and highly motivated, working towards a common shared goal. I also really appreciate the diversity here - where we have people of different nationalities, cultures and gender.
Do you have a particularly interesting or memorable highlight of working here?
It was the F1 party where we made 80 pizzas in 1 day in a 3-man team. We had a whole production line with designated role for each person. It felt like I was in a watered-down version of “Hell’s Kitchen”, with our very own Gordon Ramsey.
(Now making <10 pizzas seems easy “pizz-y”!)
What's a really good piece of advice that you've received from someone in the office?
It’s better to be right than to be fast.
If you were to make an Openspace pizza, what's your chosen topping?
Stuffed crust pizza with cheese, 1/2 red base with Parma Ham and Mozzarella, the other 1/2 white base with mushrooms, topped with an egg in the middle.
