In this week's edition of Meet The Team, we learn a little more about Pareen, our Investments Associate. She is an active member of our investment team covering the Singapore market, supporting across multiple opportunities and portfolio companies.
What do you do here at Openspace?
I’m part of the Openspace investments team where I cover the Singapore market - from deal sourcing and execution, to portfolio management for our early-stage fund. I’m privileged to work with a very diverse set of portfolio companies spanning from insect protein, to digital therapeutics for Alzheimer’s, to semicon chip design!
Why did you join Openspace?
After spending a few years in Consulting, I was looking for new career opportunities. The VC industry had always been on my radar (having worked at a CVC while in university), and so I started looking for opportunities across leading SEA VC’s. After conversations with the OSV team, I was bought into the fund thesis and loved the energy that I got from all the team members. I took the leap of faith two years back and it’s been the two most rewarding years of my professional life.
What is one unexpected thing about you?
I once spent a week living with the Dayak tribe in the jungles of Borneo to understand the impacts of a new dam that was being built along the river.
Who's someone you’ve always wanted to meet?
Ryan Reynolds - I’m here for his sense of humor. 10/10.
What's one thing you really like about working here?
At the risk of repeating what everyone else has said - the remarkable people and culture.
Do you have a particularly interesting or memorable highlight of working here?
I really like some of the mundane, unplanned team hangouts we have - grabbing lunch with colleagues, extended OpenBar’s on Friday’s, ordering snacks/pastries on a whim!
What's a really good piece of advice that you've received from someone in the office?
You are only as good as your team.
