In 2021, Kumu became the Philippines’ top grossing social app, a special achievement as it competes with global players like Bigo and TikTok. After US$90 million in funding poured in, the startup finds itself in uncharted territory.
2021 was another record-breaking year for Kumu. It became the Philippines’ top grossing social app and raised two funding rounds in just 6 months
Blitzscaling and the introduction of new features came with technical glitches but Kumu got reinforcement from experienced operators
Its leadership has been bolstered by hires from the likes of Gojek and Microsoft, while its product and tech team is 120-strong
From just video-streaming, the platform has now incorporated audio-streaming and even livestream e-commerce
